Issue number 365 of the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post presents the top 100 list of clubs having trained the most players fielded in domestic league matches by 286 teams from 15 leagues worldwide during the second semester 2021. The Argentineans of Boca Juniors are at the top of the table with 78 footballers trained, 18 more than city rivals River Plate. The Colombians of Deportivo Cali complete the podium with 56 players from their academy.

The major training clubs for the other countries surveyed are Barcelona (50) for Spain, São Paulo (49) for Brazil, Colo Colo (48) for Chile, Chivas and Pachuca (34) for Mexico, Shandong Taishan (34) for China, Rennes (31) for France, Manchester City (26) for England, Bayern Munich for Germany (21), AS Roma for Italy (20), Pohang Steelers for South Korea (19), FC Tokyo and Meiji University for Japan (18), FC Dallas for the USA (18), as well as Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC for Australia (16).

With 25 players trained in the 15 leagues studied, the Uruguayans of Club Nacional top the list for teams outside of the latter. They outrank Sporting Clube de Portugal (24 footballers from their youth academy), AFC Ajax from the Netherlands (23), Defensor SC from Uruguay (22) and SL Benfica from Portugal (16). Training clubs define teams where footballers have been for at least three seasons between their 15th and 21st birthday.
